Advancement and Progression in CCS: Meet Brygida Szeliga

CCS promotes from within and nurture a culture of advancement and continuous learning. This allows people to move up the career ladder if they want to. Brygida is one of our team members who quickly progressed within CCS.

Brygida began working for CCS at the end of 2016 as a cleaning operative on one of the biggest retail stores in Ireland. From the outset, it was clear that Brygida was diligent and enthusiastic. Within a matter of weeks, Brygida was promoted to be a Site Supervisor. She stayed in this role for a year and a half during which time she managed a busy team of 20 people.

Making a Good Impression

What made Brygida stand out was her willingness to help and to go the extra mile. It was not unusual for Brygida to regularly assist on other sites as well as working as part of the Initial Team whenever required. This involved travelling to sites across Ireland and preparing sites for opening and working alongside some of the Senior Management Team. She was driven and was always trying to upskill. Brygida really embraced the advancement culture and demonstrated her eagerness to progress.

Brygida sees this as being essential in her career progression, saying:

“Being able to work with Senior Management has helped me to gain a lot of knowledge and to learn from their experience. With time we gained mutual trust and the ability to rely on each other. My Manager always knew I would complete any task delegated to me and report the outcome after. I think any development process is down to teamwork and based on respect towards your Manager and colleagues experience.”

Stepping up to the Challenge

While working with Operations, Brygida began attending an HR course. Through her hard work and dedication, she received all her qualifications. Shortly after she moved to CCS Head Office and started working with the HR Team as an Administrator.

This was challenging at times, as Brygida explains;

“It wasn’t easy to manage a full-time job, complete course and prepare to exams at nights usually and still have some private life. I have finished my CIPD qualifications and applied for a job in Head Office. Here, I got the opportunity to learn new skills and learn from the HR team. I have a lot of respect for their experience and knowledge. We complement each other very well, knowing I can rely on my team has helped me also built confidence and use the knowledge gathered in college.”’

Brygida has now become an HR Advisor and is thriving in her role. She also still helps out on sites from time to time.

“I am now also registered to complete another course within the HR field. I suppose you never stop learning, we learn something new all our life. I’m happy that I am an HR professional with inside knowledge of the business and understanding of the job our Cleaning Operatives and Supervisors are doing on each day. The best way to learn is to listen to people who have some expertise in a field and never turn down the opportunity when it arises.”
